DREEBIT develops a compact Wien Filter
A Wien filter was designed for and tested with a room temperature electron beam ion trap of the DREEBIT GmbH. It was shown that the combination of a DRESDEN EBIS and a Wien filter provides projectiles of selected charge states and selected masses on demand at a setup dimension of far less than a meter (see pictures and spectra). The Wien filter reached mass and charge state resolution of better than 80 in the used experimental setup. With this Wien filter very compact sources of highly charged ions are now available providing ion beams of selected charge state and selected mass. The use of an expensive analysis magnet is not longer required. The costs decrease significantly ![]() picture of the DREEBIT Wien Filter ![]() picture of the DREEBIT Wien Filter and Ion Source (experimental setup) ![]() picture of the DREEBIT Wien Filter and Ion Source (experimental setup) close-up ![]() picture of the new product DRESDEN EBIS-W (EBIS + Wien Filter) ![]() leaky mode extraction spectrum of helium (measurement with 1mm aperture) ![]() leaky mode extraction spectrum of xenon (measurement with 1mm aperture) ![]() leaky mode extraction spectrum of krypton (measurement with 0,5mm aperture) ![]() leaky mode extraction spectrum of mercury (measurement with 0,5mm aperture) |
